INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

The What, Where and Why of Metal Stampings

Today at Dura-Carb, we find that our customers have been using carbide die components in an increasing number of applications. Designers and buyers are selecting metal stampings because of their many benefits: simplified design, lighter and/or stronger material, reduction or elimination of secondary operations better appearance, and substantial cost savings.

Metal stamping is the process of giving utility to sheet metal by cutting, piercing or forming it in presses using tooling.

Metal stamping is a repetitive process. Parts can be made quickly and inexpensively, yet within exacting tolerances and with precise repeatability. Today's sophisticated industrial and consumer products depend on metal stampings. With this high speed, low cost manufacturing process, Dura-Carb can make components parts and assemblies for an incredible array of end products.

How widely are metal stampings used? A typical five-room house, fully furnished, may contain close to 200,000 metal stampings. An automobile may utilize as many as 25,000 metal stampings and assemblies.

Parts in kitchen appliances, electrical boxes and other structural items, lighting fixtures and furniture supports are made using the stamping process. Small electrical components for televisions, stereos, telephones and personal computers are stamped, too.

In fact, metal stampings have made possible the small, low-cost consumer and industrial products we take for granted.
